Who this is for

Does this sound like you?

Whether you were diagnosed last month or decades ago, there is usually more help available than you've been given.

I was just diagnosed and handed a pamphlet.

My numbers keep creeping up even though I'm trying.

I count carbs, but my blood sugar still surprises me.

I'm afraid of food now. Everything feels like a mistake.

I've had type 1 for years and I'm burned out.

My medication changed and I'm not sure how to eat with it.

What we work on

Type 2 and type 1, each on their own terms.

Type 2: meals that fit

Building plates and portions around your blood sugar, without giving up every food you love.

Type 2: the bigger picture

Weight if it's a goal, cholesterol and blood pressure, and kidney-friendly eating if your doctor has asked.

Type 2: food and medication

How meals fit with what you take. Dosing always stays with your prescriber.

Type 1: carb counting

A refresher on counting and matching carbs, including mixed meals and restaurant food.

Type 1: patterns and activity

Reading CGM or meter patterns with food, and planning meals around exercise with your care team.

Type 1: diabetes burnout

Making daily management lighter when years of it have worn you down.

Working with a WebRD dietitian

What working together looks like.

First visit

A full 60 minutes

We go through your diagnosis, recent labs, medications, meter or CGM data if you use one, and your daily routine. You leave with first steps and clear answers.

Follow-ups

Steady support

Shorter visits to check in, solve what got in the way, and adjust the plan. Every visit ends with your next one booked.

Your care team

Alongside your doctor

We work alongside your doctor, endocrinologist or diabetes educator. We never change insulin or medication doses; we share what we see so your prescriber can decide.

Most clients who do well meet weekly or every other week for about their first 8 visits. Your dietitian recommends the schedule based on how much support you need right now, and you choose the day and time.

What to expect

What changes, in plain terms.

Most clients feel more confident at meals, have fewer blood sugar surprises, and stop seeing food as the enemy. Many say they finally understand what their numbers are telling them.

Results depend on many things, including your type of diabetes, medication and health history. We will not promise a specific A1C. We will help you build habits you can keep, and bring better information to your doctor.

Insurance and cost

Covered by Medicare and most plans.

Medicare Part B covers medical nutrition therapy for diabetes when your doctor refers you. If you qualify, visits are usually covered. Medicare has a yearly limit on hours, and we track it for you. Medicare Advantage plans cover it too, though rules vary by plan.

Most commercial plans also cover nutrition counseling for diabetes. Some need a referral or limit visits. We bill insurance in network for clients in Georgia, Florida, California and Pennsylvania. We check your benefits and tell you your cost in writing before your first visit.

Questions

Diabetes questions.

Does Medicare cover a dietitian for diabetes?

Yes. Medicare Part B covers medical nutrition therapy for type 1 and type 2 diabetes with a referral from your doctor. We check your benefits before your first visit.

Do I need a referral?

For Medicare, yes. Most commercial plans do not need one, but a few do. We tell you when we check your benefits.

Will you change my insulin or medication?

No. Dietitians do not prescribe or change doses. We help you understand how food and activity affect your blood sugar, and we share what we see with your doctor.

I've had diabetes for years. Is this still worth it?

Yes. Bodies, medications and routines change over time. Many long-time clients find a fresh look at food and patterns takes some of the daily stress away.

Can I do this by video?

Yes. We can see clients by video in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, or in person in Alpharetta and Buckhead.
