How Blue Cross Blue Shield covers nutrition visits.
Most Blue Cross Blue Shield (Anthem) PPO plans cover visits with a Registered Dietitian as preventive care. For many people, that means $0 out of pocket, often with no set limit on visits. Your plan has the final say, so we check it before your first visit.
When a visit is billed for a medical reason instead of as preventive care, your plan's deductible or copay may apply. Some plans cover one type and not the other. We ask about both, so you know where you stand.
Your card may come from a Blue plan in another state. That can often still work through the national Blue network. Tell us what your card says and we'll check it.
We bill in network for clients in Georgia, Florida, California and Pennsylvania, in person at our Alpharetta and Buckhead offices or by secure video.

Plans that work differently
Not every Blue Cross Blue Shield plan is the same.
HMO plans
HMO plans usually need a referral from your primary care doctor before you see a dietitian. Without one, the visit may not be covered. If you aren't sure which kind of plan you have, look on your card or ask us.
Marketplace plans
If you bought your Anthem plan through the Marketplace (healthcare.gov), let us know. Marketplace plans often use their own, smaller networks, so being in network with Anthem doesn't always mean being in network with every Marketplace plan. We check the exact plan.
Georgia State Health Benefit Plan
Some plans limit nutrition visits. For example, Georgia's State Health Benefit Plan for state employees covers a set number of visits. We confirm your visit limit before you start.
Video visits and Medicare plans
